Food Collection for Fish Pantry

Our next Food Collection for FISH Pantry will be held the weekend of September 18/19. Last month’s collection we collected 124 bags of food.

Funeral Memorials

Please remember OLMV when you make suggestions to those looking to make memorial donations in the name of your loved ones. Often, at the time of death, hospices, hospitals, and various disease foundations come most readily to mind. And these are all worthy causes, to be sure. But where the deceased has been a long-standing member and regular contributor to the parish, please also prayerfully consider whether to suggest contributions to the parish as well.

OLMV Youth Group

The Youth Ministry will hold their first meeting of the year on Sunday, September 12 at 7:00 PM in the church hall. All those in grades 9-12 are invited to attend.

Religious Education Updates

Classes are scheduled to be IN PERSON in September. Re-Registrations and registrations for new students are due at this time as classes are filling up!

The Religious Education program is in need of the following volunteers for September, 2021-May, 2022:

• Tuesday 4:00-5:10PM: Grade 3 Catechist and Assistant
• Tuesday 5:10-5:40PM: Sacramental Preparation Catechist Needed
• Tuesday 5:30-6:40PM: Grade 5 Catechist and Assistant and a Grade 6 Assistant

Please consider donating your time and talent to guide the children of our parish on their journey of faith. As always, all volunteers must be fingerprinted, background checked and attend a one-time Protecting God’s Children Workshop.

September 11th Annual Candlelight Memorial Service

Twenty years ago, on September 11, our country was hit with a horrific tragedy. Many have made the ultimate sacrifice and too many others are still suffering from its consequences.

Middlesex Borough will never forget and will again hold its Annual Candlelight Memorial Ceremony. Everyone is invited to attend. Together we will pray for peace and freedom.

Where: Victor Crowell Park by the 9/11 Memorial Statue
When: Saturday, September 11, 2021 7:00PM
(rain date Sunday, same time and place).

Servicemen and women currently serving our country will also be recognized. If you have a child, relative or friend currently serving in the military, you are invited to send their name, rank, branch of the military and where they are currently serving to:

Our Lady of Mount Virgin Bereavement Ministry Journey through Grief

If you have recently lost a loved one, please consider attending the meetings of our Journey through Grief support group, offered by the OLMV Bereavement Ministry. It’s mission is to provide ways to cope with the various feelings that are experienced following the loss of a loved one. It provides a peaceful and loving environment at which you can learn that you are not alone on your journey through grief.

The fall session—all Thursdays—will meet weekly from 1:30-3:00 PM at the Parish Center, across the street from our church, 450 Drake Ave.

The fall meeting dates will be held on:

• September 9, 16, 23, 30
• October 7, 21

One does not have to be a member of our parish, or our faith, to participate. But registration is required. Registration forms are available near the entrances of the church and in the parish office. Once completed, please return the form to the parish office.

Altar Rosary Society News

We need 12 to 15 volunteers - Parish Members, Families or Groups to adopt a section in our Prayer Garden to pull weeds three times a year.

• Fall - The Week of October 7th - Our Lady of the Rosary
• Spring - The Week of May 31th - The Visitation
• Summer - The Week of August 15th - The Assumption of Mary

Sacred Relics Exposition 

Our Lady of Mount Virgin Parish will host a presentation on and exposition of Sacred Relics on Saturday, September 26 at 2:30 pm.

Father Carlos Martins of the Companions of the Cross will be here with a very special Vatican collection of over 150 relics, some as old as 2000 years. Among the treasures will be relics of:

• St. Maria Goretti
• St. Therese of Lisieux (the “Little Flower")
• St. Francis of Assisi
• St. Anthony of Padua
• St. Thomas Aquinas
• St. Faustina Kowalska

In addition, there will also be present a portion of the veil of Our Lady, as well as one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world. Those in attendance will be able to examine and venerate each relic. In the Church’s history many miracles and healings have been worked in the presence of relics, and many have been healed through this ministry. Please do not miss this opportunity. You are encouraged to bring your articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and pictures of ill friends/family members which you will be able to touch to the reliquaries as a means of intercession.
