Saturday: After 8:00 am Mass
First Sunday of Advent
The Old Testaments prophets pleaded with the Lord to come down to save us. To save us from ourselves. And the Lord heard the cry of His people, and He did come down. We no longer cry out, seemingly in vain, “where is our God?” He is here among us. Emmanuel – God with us. Where? Right here on the altar. Right here in our tabernacle. Jesus Christ, right here among us, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, in the Holy Eucharist; in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. Indeed, we meet Christ in each of the sacraments. We come before Him humbly and contritely, in the sacrament of Confession, seeking His comfort and pardon and to be reconciled with Him and His Church.
The season of Advent is a particularly good time to come to Confession as a powerful way to prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas. A powerful and effective way to turn vigilance into action. Here at Our Lady of Mount Virgin, in addition to the regularly scheduled times for confession on Saturdays at 3:30 in the afternoon, we will be hearing confessions on the evening of Sunday, December 17, at 7:00 pm when we will have six priests available. Please take ad- vantage of these extra hours of grace to approach the Lord in the sacrament of Confession. To- gether with the regular and worthy reception of the Holy Eucharist, Confession is the best way to vigilantly prepare for Christmas.
The Development Office has received pledges totaling $75,672. This represents 102.26% of our $74,000 goal. Thank you to the 275 families who gave so generously to the 2023 Bishop’s Annual Appeal.
If you have already contributed for this year, we thank you for your generosity. If you have not, please prayerfully consider what you might be able to comfortably contribute. Every little bit helps. If every registered parishioner gave just $40, we would meet our goal. Because of the generosity of those who have already contributed, if every regular Mass attending family who has not yet donated this year gave just $40, we would meet our parish goal. For your convenience, envelopes have been inserted in this week’s Bulletin. They can be placed in the collection baskets, mailed to or left with the parish office, or mailed directly to the Diocese. To make giving a little easier, you can make a pledge and then pay it over time. Thank you in advance for your generosity. God bless
